These rules keep the board safe, fair and useful for everyone. Every listing is checked by our admin before it goes live; listings that break these rules will be sent back for changes or rejected.
Every listing must
- Be real, current and something you have the right to offer.
- Go in the right category, with a clear title and honest description and photos.
- Show a real price, or say “Free quote” or “Free”.
- Use the contact box for your phone and email, not the description, so your details stay hidden from visitors.
Housing listings
- Follow human rights law. In Ontario, landlords may not refuse or prefer tenants based on race, ancestry, place of origin, colour, ethnic origin, citizenship, creed, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, age, marital status, family status, disability, or receipt of public assistance.
- Exception: if the tenant will share a kitchen or bathroom with the owner or the owner’s family, the owner may state a preference, such as “female only”. Say clearly in the listing that the space is shared with the owner.
- Never ask for a deposit or rent before the person has seen the place.
- Ontario landlords should use the Ontario Standard Lease for most residential rentals.
Jobs
- State the pay and hours. Pay must meet the minimum wage in your province.
- Never ask job seekers to pay a fee to apply or to start work.
Home services
- If you say you are licensed (for example electrician, gas technician or plumber), add your licence number. Our admin checks it before showing the “Licensed” badge.
Travel companion
- Share travel dates and route only. Arrange to meet in person, in a public place or at the community centre, before travelling together.
Events and announcements
- Announcements about ceremonies, condolences and community news must come from the family, organizer or a verified organization account.
Not allowed anywhere
- Scams, misleading or duplicate listings.
- Hate, harassment, or discrimination.
- Illegal, adult, or dangerous items and services.
- Other people’s personal information or photos without permission.
